CLASS B HYDROCARBONS (AFFF)
Class B Foam Agents are ideal for suppressing fires involving petroleum-based products, LNG, rubber, and flammable and combustible liquids; such as diesel fuel, crude oil gasoline and ethanol.
ANSULITE Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) can be applied through a wide variety of delivery systems which provides extreme versatility. The foam is an ideal fire suppression choice for airports, refineries, manufacturing plants, municipal fire departments, and other operations involving the transportation, processing, or handling of flammable liquids. It is available as 1%, 3%, and 6% concentrates or as 1% and 3% freeze- protected concentrates.
As with other Class B Foam Agents, ANSULITE AFFF extinguishes fires of flammable gases, liquids, greases, and similar materials by excluding oxygen and inhibiting the release of combustible vapors.. The combustion of these liquids and gases involves rapid vapor-phase oxidation of the fuel and subsequent involvement of more fuel due to radiant heat feedback.
Agent options:
ANSULITE Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) is available as 1%, 3%, and 6% concentrates or as 1% and 3% freeze-protected concentrates.
ANSULITE Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) Concentrates
Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) is a synthetic foam consisting of combinations of fluorochemical and hydrocarbon surfactants combined with high boiling point solvents and water. Intended for use on Class B fires, the foam’s excellent wetting characteristics make it useful in combating Class A fires as well. Three fire extinguishment mechanisms are in effect when using the concentrates:
The concentrates can be used with both aspirating and non-aspirating discharge devices because of the low energy required to create the foam. They can be used with dry chemical extinguishing agents without regard to the order of application to provide even greater fire protection capability. Transported and stored as a concentrate provides ease of use and considerable savings in weight and volume.ANSULITE 1% AFFF and Freeze-Protected AFFF Concentrates are intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires having low water solubility such as crude oils, gasoline, diesel fuels and aviation fuels. ANSULITE 1% Freeze-Protected AFFF minimum useable temperature is –20 °F (–29 °C).ANSULITE 3% AFFF Concentrate is intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires having low water solubility such as crude oils, gasoline, diesel fuels and aviation fuels. For use as a 3% proportioned solution in fresh, salt or hard water, it may also be used and stored as a 3% premixed solution in fresh or potable water only. The correct proportioning or mixture ratio is 3 parts of concentrate to 97 parts of water. ANSULITE PREMIUM 3% (AFC-5-A) AFFF Concentrate is intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires having low water solubility such as crude oils, gasoline, diesel fuels and aviation fuels. It is intended for use as a 3% proportioned solution in fresh, salt, or hard water. Water hardness should not exceed 500 ppm expressed as calcium and magnesium. It may also be used and stored as a 3% premixed solution in fresh or potable water only. The correct proportioning or mixture ratio is 3 parts of concentrate to 97 parts of water. ANSULITE 3% Freeze-Protected AFFF Concentrate is intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires having low water solubility such as crude oils, gasoline, diesel fuels and aviation fuels. The concentrate is freeze protected to –20 °F (–29 °C). It is intended for use as a 3% proportioned solution in fresh, salt or hard water. It may also be used and stored as a 3% premixed solution in fresh or potable water only. However, the diluted solution will freeze at 32 °F (0 °C). The correct proportioning or mixture ratio is 3 parts concentrate to 97 parts water.ANSULITE 6% (AFC-3) AFFF Concentrate is intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires having low water solubility such as crude oils, gasoline, diesel fuels and aviation fuels. It is intended for use as a 6% proportioned solution in fresh, salt or hard water. It may also be used and stored as a 6% premixed solution in fresh or potable water only. The correct proportioning or mixture ratio is 6 parts of concentrate to 94 parts of water.ANSULITE PREMIUM 6% (AFC-5) AFFF Concentrate is intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires having low water solubility such as crude oils, gasoline, diesel fuels and aviation fuels. It is intended for use as a 6% proportioned solution in fresh, salt, or hard water. It may also be used and stored as a 6% premixed solution in fresh or potable water only. The correct proportioning or mixture ratio is 6 parts of concentrate to 94 parts of water. ANSULITE Premium 6% (AFC-5) AFF Concentrate meets the U.S. Military Specification MIL-F-24385 and is on the Qualified Products List (QPL).
·An aqueous film is formed which works to help prevent the release of fuel vapor.
·The foam blanket from which the film-forming liquid drains, effectively excludes oxygen from the fuel surface.
·The water content of the foam provides a cooling effect.
The concentrates can be used with both aspirating and non-aspirating discharge devices because of the low energy required to create the foam. They can be used with dry chemical extinguishing agents without regard to the order of application to provide even greater fire protection capability.
